Free Printable Travel Scavenger Hunts: 5 options. License plate, road trip, airport, & more.
Keep the kids entertained while traveling.
If I remember one thing about road trips as a kid, it was being bored. Of course, that was back before cars had built in entertainment systems for the backseat. Or even the front seat, for that matter.
I spent a lot of time reading books. But I had the most fun when the adults organized a game. I remember the trip from Iowa to Virginia in which my parents challenged us to find all of the license plates. That was so much fun! And it kept us busy inspecting every car that we passed.
With summer upon us, I decided it was time to make some scavenger hunts for the road. There are five different options below. There is one searching for license plates. Another for road signs. One for the airport. One searching for types of vehicles. And finally a two-page road trip scavenger hunt looking for a variety of things. I hope you (and the kids!) enjoy.

Instructions for Playing
You can give each person their own scavenger hunt. And let each person “call” the item as they see it.
Or you can get different colored pencils. Each person has their own color. The first person to “call” an item colors in the square with their color. The person with the most at the end wins. This might work particularly well with the license plate scavenger hunt, for example.
Instructions for Printing
• Print options: regular paper works just fine. You can also use card stock if you want them to be a bit sturdier.
• All of the files are in pdf below. Just hit the “download” button (or pink word “download,” depending upon browser).
• The default size of these is full-page. However, if you want smaller, simply reduce the print size. If you’re not sure on how much to reduce, check out my post “How to Resize Printables to Fit Your Planner.”
Travel Scavenger Hunts: 5 Hunts
Road Trip Scavenger Hunt
This is a 2-page road trip scavenger hunt. There are a variety of items (including some of the signs and vehicles from the hunts below). You can give the kids a single page or both pages.
Road Sign Scavenger Hunt
I would make a rule that any sign that fills the requirement counts. For example, I couldn’t find the perfect “Deer crossing” sign. I would say that ANY “Deer crossing” sign counts…not just one that looks EXACTLY like the pictured one. This should cut out any arguments before they begin.
License Plate Scavenger Hunt
If there is any road trip hunt that is classic, it’s the license plate scavenger hunt. I hope you enjoy the pictures for each state. I tried to find the most current (that I could legally use!).
Airport Scavenger Hunt
If you have to visit the airport during your vacation, there is almost one constant. And that is time waiting.
Keep the kids busy during the wait with airport scavenger hunt.
Road Trip Scavenger HUnt: Transportation
This road trip scavenger hunt focuses on vehicles/transportation.
